OH 1921

For the DFW Immigration Oral History Project. His reflections on growing up in El Salvador during that country’s civil war (1980 – 1992), including curfews, restrictions to electricity and water, access to medical care. Education and starting a career as a journalist/photographer. 2001 earthquake and decision to obtain temporary protective status, then legal residency, in the U.S.; continuing education and success as a journalist/photographer; career as a journalism professor at Brookhaven College; service with the Texas State Guard; perspective on immigration debates in the U.S.

OH 1934

For the Weatherford Oral History Project. Family background and stories of his four daughters working at Six Flags Over Texas in the Wild West Show, trick-riding and trick-roping. His interest in a stagecoach at the show launching his business, J. Brown Stagecoach Works, in designing and building stagecoaches for Wells Fargo and the movie industry. Touring his shop in Weatherford, TX and explaining the process for hand-crafting stagecoaches.

For the DFW Immigration Oral History Project. Childhood in Arolsen, Germany. Father’s career in Schutzstaffel (SS or Protective Squad that served as paramilitary Corps of the Nazi Party). Studied zoology at the Philipps University of Marburg graduating with a PhD in 1964. Memories of working at family-owned laundry business for his father while obtaining his education. Decision to pursue career in U.S. Reflections on his teaching career and living in the United States.

OH 1992 Ingman, Stan

Growing up in Pennsylvania and West Virginia where the economy was based on industrial chemical production and coal mining, Stan Ingman experienced environmental degradation first-hand. An affinity for the outdoors and a concern for public health resulted in degrees in botany, rural communities and medical sociology. The “engaged university” offered a forum for multidisciplinary projects and research-based results.

U.S. Air Force veteran. Trained with the Royal Air Force and was a pilot during the Berlin Airlift. Stationed in Tempelhof. Children’s reaction to the parachutes. Commander at Tempelhof.

For the Dallas LGBTQ Oral History Project. Remembering going to school at Texas A&M and experiencing his “sexual awaking”. Introduction to the Gay bar scene and gay community in Dallas. Recounting the AIDS epidemic in Dallas and the Dallas buyers’ club.

OH 1919

For the Dallas LGBTQ Oral History Project. Pamela is the daughter of Judge Jerry Lynn Buchmeyer who became a United States District Judge in the Northern District of Texas. Thoughts on her Fathers political career. Her retailing of Baker v. Wade a federal lawsuit challenging the legality of the sodomy law of the state of Texas, which criminalized private behavior by consenting adults. Thoughts on the Dallas gay community and Dallas Pride events.

For the Dallas LGBTQ Oral History Project. Their lives prior to meeting. Injustices experienced by being gay. How they met in Dallas in 1961. Recalling the gay bar scene in Dallas and the gay movement in Dallas. Evans and Harris were the first same-sex couple to be married in Dallas County, in a civil ceremony, following the U. S. Supreme Court’s decision.

Memories of growing up in Denton. His lifelong involvement with the Rotary club from watching his dad as president to his own experiences as the president of the Rotary club in Bonham. Recollections of Denton historical events such as the desegregation of public schools.

For the Air America Oral History Project. Memories of growing up in Pittsburgh and Miami. First thoughts on becoming an aircraft pilot and joining the Naval Aviation Cadet Program. Transitioning form the Navy to the Marine Corp and joining active duty squadrons. Years spent flying for Pan-America before joining Air America.
