Childhood and education in Pennsylvania; decision to attend nursing school; “coming out” experience; decision to enlist in Navy Nurse Corps in 1969; assignment to facilities in Florida, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Camp Lejeune, N.C., and Quantico, Va.; decision to leave service upon assignment to USS Sanctuary, a hospital ship stationed off the coast of Vietnam, in 1974; opinions regarding “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy; involvement in veterans organizations.
