Their courtship in San Antonio; her coping with various assignments to Europe, Japan, and Washington, DC; child-raising; his activities in the Korean War; his promotion to general; military protocol for the wives of general officers; his one-year tour in the Vietnam War as the commander of the 101st Airborne Division; his diagnosis of stomach cancer and his death, May, 1943.
