Childhood memories and early experiences of his father’s newspaper publishing career in Oklahoma, Texas, and South Carolina. Experiences in Texas public schools during segregation era. Father’s political views and development of his own political views.

Fort Worth-based Chicano political activists. Discussion of the Raza Unida Party in Tarrant County and throughout Texas; efforts to improve the economic, social and political aspects of the Chicano community. Carlos Puente’s service on Fort Worth City Council. Roadblocks Mexican-Americans faced in campaigning and running for political office, city council and school board, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s. Challenges of helping Hispanics become registered voters, educated about candidates and consistently come out and vote.

Experiences at University of Alabama and in US Air Force. Flight School at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, and Basic Training in Mississippi. Assignments in Keflavik, Iceland, Red Bluff, CA, and NORAD Sector as Captain in electronics and communications. Certified for the F-102 at Perrin Air Force Base, Sherman, TX. Experiences while assigned to combat squadron in Saigon during Vietnam War. Life after Vietnam era and work experiences flying world-wide for businesses and the private sector, particularly as pilot for Frank Sinatra.
