Scott Manning sat down to discuss how being a gay man in America had affected the many aspects of his life. From a young age he always knew he was “different”, the sensitive type that would rather play with the girls than play football. Growing up in conservative North East America with primarily Republican surroundings made things complicated for Manning’s life. He eventually started to explore his sexuality when a friend at 16 made advances at him. This would continue on into years at Colgate until he was eventually able to be comfortable enough to come out as a proud gay man. During the 80’s he and his fellow friends would party hard at clubs and made sure they were at their work desks by 9 am the next morning ready to go. But it was not all sunshine and roses due to the AIDs epidemic. In Manning’s eyes the epidemic did not affect his generation as much as the previous, but he did lose people in his life. Eventually Manning made his way to publishing and worked his way in the publicity department where he still works to this day.
