Clark, Andrew. The Bolivar Oral History Project. Through his paternal line, Clark is the great great great grandson of blacksmith and freedman Thomas Cook Sr. and his wife, Lethia Perry. Cook’s blacksmith shop was the focus of an archeological excavation in 2021 (Bolivar Archeological Project). In this interview with the Bolivar Oral History Project, Clark touches on his immediate and extended family relationships, including his memories of his paternal grandfather, William Glasco Clark, the great grandson of Tom Cook, Sr. Clark recalls his youth growing up in Southeast Denton and the importance of church and religion in shaping his values and life goals. In discussing how he learned about Black history, Clark responds that much of his education was community-driven through spending time at local organizations such as the MLK Center and attending Juneteenth celebrations.
