Mexican-American, UNT football player, and educator. Childhood in Southern Texas; father’s experience on the King Ranch and stint as a bootlegger; schooling and playing football in Kingsville, Texas; growing up Mexican-American in Kingsville, Texas; attending UNT on a football scholarship; experiences as a Mexican-American at UNT in the mid-1950s; coaching football in Kingsville, Texas; recruitment into Job Corps; various jobs around the country with Job Corps; teaching in Washington DC prison; work in Hot Springs, Arkansas; work for Office of Civil Rights Technical Assistance integrating Dallas-area schools; work for the U.S. Department of Education in the Offices of Elementary and Secondary Education, Bilingual Education, and Migrant Education; involvement in Hispanic/Latino initiatives within the Department of Education; work with Mexican Department of Education in various educational exchange initiatives.
