Oral Histories

OH 2129

In this interview, Vanessa Lee – one of the owners of the Bread Diary Company – describes her relationship with food and how it interacts with her heritage, her experiences within farmers markets, and how she experiments with sourdough. She talks about how her interest in baking really coincides with her love of science and how manifests in her product. Lee also describes how she interacts with customers and other vendors at markets and how she expresses herself through all these experiences. There is even a discussion of family life and how the community that she surrounds herself with gives their full support and helps in any way that they can. Lee also goes into her vision of both her and her sister’s business and the future food landscape of Texas, advocating for people to grow their knowledge and shouts out small businesses. Lastly, Lee shines a spotlight on how many of the vendors at farmers markets do this as a passion project, it is not a full-time situation, but something that they just love and show up for.
