Elected first woman mayor of Marshall, Texas, in 1994. Her legacy of work, fund-raising and restoration efforts in Marshall and East Texas. Accomplishments include founding the Marshall Public Library, construction of the Marshall Civic Center Auditorium and the restoration of the Harrison County Courthouse. Kariel tells of her life-long commitment and duties in civic and cultural leadership and preservation and in transportation issues affecting East Texas, serving on a variety of local and regional transportation committees.
