Childhood in Fort Worth; education in Fort Worth schools and at Texas Christian University; decision to enroll in Army Air Corps; training at bases in San Antonio, Greenville, and Waco, Tex.; assignment to B-26 unit, and later to B-17 unit; service at bases in Italy and England; twenty-nine combat missions in skies over Germany and Central Europe; readjustment to life in the U.S.
