Logan, Reverend Reginald. The Bolivar Oral History Project. Logan’s interview for the Bolivar Oral History Project was conducted in conjunction with the Bolivar Archeological Project’s community engagement efforts. Reverend Logan is a Quakertown descendant and starts his interview by retracing his paternal ancestry; his great-grandfather moved the Logans from Kentucky to Denton in the late nineteenth century. A native of Denton, Logan recalls what growing up was like in the city before racial integration. His interview transitions from his memories of childhood, with a focus on his mother and father, to his adulthood and marriage, extended family members, and pre-civil rights Southeast Denton, including his years at the Fred Moore School. He relates how his community has changed over time as African Americans have left Southeast Denton. Logan’s interview concludes with his reflections on Black history in Denton, including the Tom Cook Blacksmith Shop, and the city’s efforts, at the time of his interview, to commemorate Quakertown.
