Submarine School, New London, Connecticut, 1944; assignment to the Pilotfish, 1945; his responsibilities as a torpedoman striker; patrol off Marcus Island; also his observations concerning the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945, and the atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll in 1946.
